DESCRIPTION
Universidad de Burgos is a Spanish public university, recognized among the best young universities in the world (fifth in the U-Ranking 2022; 215th in THE-IMPACT ranking 2022; 989th in THE World University Ranking, among others), noted for teaching a comprehensive and quality teaching, very close to the student and focused on internationalization.
Founded in 1994, UBU is already a benchmark for research Spanish university and knowledge transfer to the business world. Recognized by the Ministry of Education as a Campus of International Excellence, among its latest achievements, it counts having joined the European alliance of RUN-EU universities.
Located in a medium-sized, welcoming city with a business world that makes it the main industrial center of Castilla y León, Universidad de Burgos has the most modern facilities, laboratories, workshops and libraries, as well as television stations and own radio and a wide cultural and sports offer.
It currently has almost 10000 students, six faculties, a Higher Polytechnic School and two annexed Schools, which makes it a medium-sized University without the effects of overcrowding and excessive dispersion.
UBU is divided into two campuses. Vena Campus and San Amaro Campus (Hospital del Rey). The latter is, in turn, the headquarters of the University and houses the Rector's Office and the Faculty of Law, constituting a first-rate historical-artistic enclave.
It has a highly qualified teaching staff committed to research, knowledge transfer and the use of new technologies applied to teaching. It currently offers 26 degrees, 5 of which are taught online and face-to-face and 2 are bilingual in English and Spanish, as well as 7 double degrees, 27 master's degrees, 13 doctoral programs and 16 of its own titles.
This teaching offer focuses, as a priority, on facilitating the employability of its graduates, through the establishment of internship agreements, both curricular and extracurricular, with the powerful business and industrial network of the region and international companies. It has a comprehensive student guidance service in charge of tutoring students throughout their academic career.
The vocation for internationalization is another of the hallmarks of the Universidad de Burgos. This makes it possible for practically all of its students to complete their training at universities of recognized international prestige, thanks to the numerous ERASMUS and UBU-GLOBAL agreements (in Asia and America), as well as international cooperation scholarships throughout the world, which offers.

Dr. BRUNO BARUQUE ZANÓN
Computer Science Engineer and PhD in Computer Science specializing in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Burgos, Spain, has been an Associate Professor at the Digitalization Department since 2018. He's been a key member of the university staff since 2005, holding various positions.
As an active member of the GICAP (Grupo de Inteligencia Computacional Aplicada in UBU) research group, Baruque significantly contributes to research, knowledge transfer, and scientific dissemination activities. His focus is on Artificial Intelligence, particularly Automated Learning techniques, with a keen interest in applying these techniques to real-life challenges across diverse fields such as the economy, industrial engineering, health sciences, information security, and education.
He has received positive evaluations for his research activities from the Spanish National Commission for the Evaluation of Research Activities. He is the author of over 20 contributions to indexed international research journals and more than 40 contributions to international scientific conferences, primarily in the 1st and 2nd quartiles.
Since 2009, he has coordinated the Grupo de Innovación Docente (GID) NeuroTICs at UBU, dedicated to promoting the internationalization of education programs. Baruque has served as an expert for SEPIE since 2015, evaluating teaching innovation projects. He has also been a local coordinator for the Business Intelligence and Big Data in Cyber-Secure Environments master's degree since 2017. Additionally, since 2010, he has coordinated the European Computer Science expert course, facilitating students' completion of courses in different institutions.
Dra. ANA MARÍA LARA PALMA
Highly qualified and passionate professional with a solid academic background as an Industrial Organization Engineer (TECNUN, University of Navarra) and a Ph.D. in Engineering (University of Burgos). With a distinguished career as a Full Professor at the University, my teaching experience spans various fields, from Economics and Business Administration to Human Resources and Knowledge Management.
In the realm of research, I have made significant contributions with 16 articles published in internationally renowned scientific journals and 42 presentations at national and international conferences. My involvement in 20 research projects attests to my commitment to advancing knowledge in my area of expertise: Knowledge Management and Human Resources.
My focus extends beyond the academic sphere, as I have collaborated with prestigious institutions internationally, such as Tec de Monterrey in Mexico, Fachhochschule Köln in Germany (2004-2008), and Meiji University of Tokyo in Japan (2012-2014). Additionally, I highlight my role as the ERASMUS Coordinator between the University of Burgos and Fachhochschule Köln, strengthening international collaboration.
My commitment to academic training is reflected in the successful supervision of 4 doctoral theses with an International Doctorate mention. I am a proactive and dedicated professional, ready to contribute my experience and knowledge to any educational or research environment seeking academic excellence and constant innovation.
Dr. JOSÉ MANUEL GALÁN ORDAX
Industrial Engineer graduated from the University of Valladolid in 2002, with a strong track record in research and teaching. I began my career in the INSISOC research group, participating in projects such as FIRMA from the EU Framework Programme V and collaborating with the SEI Oxford office. After obtaining a predoctoral scholarship, I joined the University of Burgos as an assistant professor, where I have held various roles since, including visits to other institutions.
My initial methodological focus was on computational modeling and simulation, particularly agent-based modeling. Over time, I have integrated analytical approaches with simulation, and more recently, I have explored models using network theory and statistical learning. I enjoy working on interdisciplinary projects, highlighting my contributions in project management, evolutionary game theory, and, more recently, predictive modeling in industrial and management engineering.

Dr. DANIEL URDA MUÑOZ
PhD holder in Computer Science from the University of Malaga since 2015, brings a rich background in developing predictive models for clinical areas from heterogeneous data sources. His postdoctoral experience includes a 24-month Marie Curie Fellowship linked to an ITN in ML for Personalized Medicine as part of a European project. He has completed internships at renowned institutions such as ETH Zurich, INSERM Paris, Liverpool John Moores University, and the University of Tartu.
Recently, as part of a Talent Attraction Program, Daniel worked at the University of Cádiz as an ASCETI researcher, focusing on Big Data and ML projects applied in manufacturing processes for companies like Airbus, Navantia, Acerinox, and Cepsa. Presently, he is a lecturer (Profesor Contratado Doctor) at UBU, contributing to teaching and research in the Digitalization department, where he coordinates a new Bachelor's degree linked to Industry 4.0. Alongside his expertise in AI and ML, Daniel explores optimization algorithms and deep learning models, with a keen interest in explainable and interpretable models, particularly applied to domains such as logistics, transportation, industry, air pollution, and cybersecurity.
with two CNAI research periods (2009-2014 and 2015-2020), he has established a prolific research profile. He boasts 25 papers in JCR-indexed journals (11Q1, 10Q2, 4Q3), over 30 conference papers, and has edited four Springer books. With an H-index of 13 and 920 total citations on Google Scholar, his research receives an impressive >130 citations/year on average over the last 5 years.
Daniel's academic leadership extends to being a regular member of program committees for conferences like the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI, classified as A*), demonstrating his influence in the field. Additionally, he served as Co-Chair for international conferences such as ICEUTE, CISIS, and SOCO in 2020 and contributed to the organizing committee for various conferences, including OLA in Cádiz in 2020.
Dr. RUBÉN RUIZ GONZÁLEZ
Ph.D. from the University of Valladolid with the thesis 'Signal Processing Techniques for Agro-Industrial Machinery Monitoring' in 2019. Supervised by Dr. Jaime Gómez Gil, Dr. Luis Manuel Navas Gracia, Dr. Francisco Javier Gómez Gil.
Ph.D. from the Universitat Ramon Llull with the thesis 'New Strategies in Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy and Singlet Oxygen Detection' in 2013. Supervised by Dr. Santi Nonell Marrugat.
The researcher has accumulated over 14 months of international experience in foreign institutions during and after his Ph.D. In particular, he completed two stays at the University of Kentucky (USA), totaling 7 months; two stays at the Universidade Federal de Viçosa (Brazil), totaling 9 months; one stay at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (Brazil), lasting 1 month; and one stay at the Universidade Federal do Piauí (Brazil), also lasting 1 month. Currently, he is involved in ongoing projects and active partnerships with researchers from various universities in both the USA and Brazil.
